Match Review: Malaysia Cup Quarter-Final Second Leg | Selangor FC 5-1 Negeri Sembilan FC | Aggregate: 6-1 | Through to the Semi-Finals

Selangor FC progressed to the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup 2025/26 with a 6-1 aggregate victory after defeating Negeri Sembilan FC 5-1 in the second-leg quarter-final at Stadium MBPJ yesterday.

Selangor FC began the match aggressively and opened the scoring as early as the 2nd minute through Faisal Halim, setting the tone for the evening. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 24th minute when Alvin Fortes found the net, before Nooa Laine made it 3-0 in the 30th minute. Just before half-time (45+2’), Quentin Cheng added a fourth to complete a dominant first-half display by the Red Giants.

In the second half, Chrigor Moraes extended the lead by 5 goals in the 66th minute. Negeri Sembilan pulled one back in the 74th minute when Jovan Motika converted from the penalty spot to make it 5-1.

According to Selangor head coach, Kim Pan-gon, he was pleased with his players’ performance and described the match as special due to the tremendous support from the fans in the stadium.

“I’m pleased with the team’s performance yesterday. The players showed great intensity, created many chances and demonstrated a strong desire to achieve our target. At home, we want to build an identity that creates fear in our opponents by scoring early, controlling the match and dominating play. Playing in front of a full stadium made the occasion even more special,” said Kim Pan-gon.

“However, we must remain humble. There are still many areas to improve and we need to be more clinical, as we were capable of scoring more goals. One big win does not mean we can become complacent. The team will continue to work step by step, stay focused and prepare for the next challenge,” he added.

From the Malaysia Cup 2025/26 quarter-final second leg (#SFCNSE) yesterday, several key points can be highlighted:

Chrigor Moraes’ Goal – The prolific Selangor striker scored his fourth goal of the Malaysia Cup 2025/26 campaign, while also reaching a milestone of 30 goals for the club.

Semi-Final Qualification – This marks the 35th time Selangor have reached the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup in the competition’s history.

Next week, Selangor will host Kuching City FC at Stadium MBPJ, Kelana Jaya on 22 February in the Super League 2025/26 at 10.00pm. Tickets are available through Selangor FC’s official channels.

The Selangor FC management would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Red Giants supporters who filled Stadium MBPJ, Kelana Jaya for the first time. Your support is truly valued.
